If you're currently playing VJBL with another club, remember to complete and submit a PTT (permission to train) form available here, prior to attending any try-out sessions. The form is available to complete from 22 Sept. Ensure you allow enough time for the form to be approved (min 5 business days)
Tryout Process and Selection Information
Attendance
Players are expected to attend all try-out sessions. If your player cannot meet this requirement, please contact the VJBL Program Manager via email vjbl@bmbasketball.org.au.
Selection criteria
It is a mandatory requirement that all players must be registered with a BMBA domestic team for both summer and winter seasons.
To be eligible for selection, players must be registered with and consistently attend games and training at a Bacchus Marsh Basketball Association domestic club—Magic, Panthers, Saints, Lightning or Eynesbury Dingoes—during both the summer and winter seasons. If you are not currently registered to a Bacchus Marsh domestic team, please contact Jo via admin@bmbasketball.org.au to help you find a team.
Teams are selected with balance in mind, including player positions. Players are assessed on talent, attitude, effort, leadership, hustle, communication, speed, strength, skill level, game intelligence and decision-making.
Conduct during try-outs
Players will not be actively coached during try-outs, as this is a competitive selection process. Any player who does not meet our Code of Conduct may be removed from try-outs.
Selection outcomes
Selected players will receive an email at their registered email address confirming their team placement. Please check your spam or junk folder. Players will have 24 hours to accept their position in the program before it is offered to another player. Team posts will be placed on the Bacchus Marsh Basketball Association socials after individuals have all accepted their positions, between 48 – 72 hours after tryouts end. Team compositions may change during Grading Phases 1 and 2, with players moved between teams where necessary.
Feedback
Due to the high number of participants, we are unable to provide individual feedback on selection outcomes. Please remember that our coaches and administrators are volunteers.
Selection limits
Basketball Victoria restricts the number of teams the club can enter in the representative VJBL competition. With the overwhelming number of try-out registrations in 2027, some athletes will unfortunately miss out on a position. Where possible, we may offer development positions or field development teams that focus on training and tournament participation.
